Marathon Rules & Prizes

General Information

There will be 2 sections for blitz players (U1600 and 1600+) in Tomato and Cooly, 1 bullet section in Flash and a  standard 15-0 in Slomato. Players rated within 100 points below or above the section limit can play in either section, but to be eligible for a prize in the U1600 Blitz section a player must be below the respective limit before he enters the marathon and after it ends. This guarantees staying in the same section throughout the entire marathon. Players who are close to the limit are well advised to play in the high section from the start.

The first tournaments will start at exactly 12:00pm (noon) server time on the specified Saturday and the marathon will conclude at the end of any tournaments ongoing at 11:59am server time on the specified Sunday.

All tournaments are continuous, and for blitz and standard 4 rounds long.  The bullet tournaments are 5 rounds long. It can occure that a tournament is reduced with a round or a round is added. This is due to timing for next upcoming scheduleds which also run during the event.

Types of Tournaments:

Tomato: U1600 5-0 section    To see results, on ICC type:  t tomato series b xxx-tomato
Cooly: 1600+ 5-0 section       To see results, on ICC type:  t tomato series b xxx-cooly
Flash: 1-0 (all ratings)             To see results, on ICC type:  t tomato series b xxx-flash
Slomato: 15-0 (all ratings)       To see results, on ICC type:  t tomato series b xxx-slomato

Where the xxx in the above lines should be replaced by the three characters for the month of the marathon, eg. January => jan;  May => may;  September => sep;  Thus, the command for January becomes:  t tomato series b jan-tomato.

NEW !  Random Draw prize system:
Tournaments played during the marathon are added to a series. Example: In january the tournaments in slomato marathon are put in jan-slomato.
From all the grids in this series there are randomly 4 tournaments choosen.  From each tournament grid a player is choosen. If a player already won a best or a most prize or if he is a freetrial then he is not eligible for a random draw prize. Another player is then choosen.
This means that, like with lottery tickets, the more tournaments you are in, the more chance you have on getting picked for a random draw prize.

RULES:
Free trials are not eligible for prizes. For the U1600 blitz prizewinners of the respective classes in the previous marathon are not eligible to win again. Not more than
one prize per participant.

Note that there will be NO half-point bye points for latejoining in the marathon anymore, except for the scheduled tourneys.

All the usual ICC guideline rules apply: NO computer assistance.  NO Human assistance. NO one may play on your account.  And intentional rating abuse (lowering rating to enter lower class), are all STRICTLY forbidden, and may lead to disqualification from this Marathon, all future Marathons, as well as further sanctions as laid out by ICC's Agreement, and Policy rules.

Special Rating Rules Restrictions:

Class prize eligibility is based on rating being below limit BOTH at the start of the Marathon, AND upon it's conclusion. In addition, the "best" rating must not be higher than 200 points above the rating class limit.  Furthermore, management reserves the right to deny a prize to anyone for any reason, who does not belong in a rating class section.
